May 20, 2013 - Lake Reams

Hey there family,
Well this week has been great! We had our second lesson with Gene and we taught him the Plan of Salvation and it went so well.  It is so cool to teach Gene because he already knows all this stuff we teach him from the Bible, we just fill in a few blanks and he just gets it.  But what's most important and so cool is that the spirit was so strong in the lesson and that's what made it different for him, the spirit. Everything we were saying and testifying of you could tell he was feeling the spirit strong like we were.  He asked a bunch of awesome questions and kept saying it just all makes since, this is true I know it is. Man it was so cool! After the lesson we asked Gene to say the pray and he prayed and after the pray he was just crying he could feel the spirit so so strong.  He is doing so good with reading the Book of Mormon too, and he doesn't just read it but he studies it and every single day, it's so cool.  Yesterday at church he leaned over to me during on of the talks and the talk was about reverence and I don't know if something in the talk spoke to him or if he was really feeling the Holy Ghost again but he said, you have totally convinced me that this is the true church and I said Gene it's not me its the Holy Ghost! Heavenly Father is the one who is making you feel all these good feelings, and he just smiled and said you're right.  SO AWESOME! Another way cool thing happened this week, Sister Low and I were on our way to an appointment and on the way we saw a man walking his dog and decided that we needed to stop and talk to him, so we stopped and introduced ourselves and gave our testimonies and gave him a pass along card and asked if we could come by something and teach a lesson, and he said he thought it was great what we were doing and that yes we could come by.  So a few days after that we went to his house and his name is Jim and he's married and has one young son, so we stopped by and they were a bit busy, but you could tell Jim really wanted us to come in and share, so we said we will only take 5 minutes and his wife agreed and we went in and all sat at the table and gave a very brief Restoration lesson and basically gave our testimonies and during that we could feel the spirit and we looked at Jim and he was just in tears.  We asked if everything was ok and he said, I have been praying every single night that somehow someone would be able to come and teach my wife and son about Jesus Christ.  ( He believes in Jesus Christ but his wife is from China and has no concept at all of God and who Jesus Christ is, and so it wasn't ever really taught in the home to the son) It was so amazing, he said he has been trying to teach her about Jesus Christ but that he doesn't do a very good job and that she gets confused and frustrated and he said I've been praying for someone to help me.  Sister Low and I were so excited and Jim definitely wants us to come back, it will be a challenge because where she's from she said that they are taught that there is no such thing as God or Jesus Christ, and that they don't believe in things they can't see, but they worship the Buddha and other statue things.  Well needless to say it will be a challenge to teach the concept that there is a God and higher power, but it is also such a blessing for us that we can set the proper foundation of Jesus Christ and the gospel in her life and sons, and now the fathers. So so cool!!!! It's so amazing because every single prayer I pray in the day I am always always asking Heavenly Father to lead me to someone who is ready and is looking, and I hadn't had any luck until now and it's crazy how my prayers were answered and Jim's were answered, so so cool!  Other than that our week has been pretty slow, lot of canceled appointments and more people slamming doors in our face, but it's all worth it when you find people like Gene and Jim who are ready and have been waiting for you.  The weather here has been pretty nice, it was storming yesterday and Sister Low and I got pretty soaked. But it hasn't gotten hot hot yet and not really that humid.  I have seen 2 gators!!! The gators here are harmless, and they never come out of the water.  They are about 3 to 4 feet max, and if you walked toward the lake to get a better look at them they swim away or go underwater. I've only seen one swim toward the shore but that's because there was a dog near it. But we never get close to the water anyways and the gators never come out! I am however getting absolutely bit to death, I have bits all over my legs and yes mom they are starting to scar...ugh I cannot help but scratch, the bugs here are weird though, they don't let leave bite's, all of mine turn into rashes.  But I bought some itch spray that a member in my ward recommended and it is amazing, it helps me be itch free and not sore. So I am always spraying myself. It doesn't make the bugs go away thought but that's ok. Well I gotta go, I hope all is going well back home, I can't believe Claire has more teeth! I miss her! and Sam that waterslide thing looks way way way fun!  Love you all

Lake Reams - May 13, 2013

Hello Family!!!! How are you! Well since I talked to you yesterday I don't have whole bunches to say! Right after I talked to you we left and we went outside to leave and we were looking in the little pond across the way and I spotted my first gator!!!!! Whoooo!! It didn't come out of the water but it was just a little guy (3 feet or so) swimmin around. Nothing else has really happen besides that, tonight we are going on exchanges and Sister Low will be leaving and I will be with a Sister named Sister Ursnbac ( I think that's how you spell it, its like ER-SIN-BACK) Ya anyways, I have met her a few times before and she is really nice, she too is from Canada like Sister Low. Well today we went grocery shopping and actually got a decent amount of food to live of off. And I had to get some shampoo, etc, things like that, that I was out of. Tonight we are going to go and visit a referral that we got last week that wasn't ever home. His name is Steve and he said he would be home tonight so we are excited to go over there. The weather today is fair, it's not sunny and hot which is nice, it's over cast and the tiniest windy, but it is still nice. I am still getting bitten to death by bugs and I can't stop itching, ughhh I guess there is some certain spray, a member was telling us that is really good and makes you not itch or hurt so we are going to try and fine some!  The members here are really wonderful and nice, the ward is huge I was shocked, I didn't think anywhere but Utah had this big of wards.  Kristin would love the ward; there are about 80 primary children and a lot of young families.  The family we had dinner with last night and let us use their phone was the Stevens, they have 3 little girls and one Claire’s age, almost 7 months. She is very cute and looks just like Claire, very long, little blond hairs and blue eyes.  Well I love you guys and I really have zero time left to continue this.  I will try and write more next week if I can, we are soooo limited in time!

Well hello family!
I'm guessing you have been wondering why I haven't written to you yet! Well my P-day got switched so I didn't get one last week! But that's ok all is well! The MTC is so GREAT!! I am having such a good time here! I am learning so much it blows my mind! And crazy I have literally seen over 20 people I know here! It's so weird almost but way cool! Well the first day I got here they already had us teaching!  There are theses "mock investigators" that come to the MTC and those are the people we teach, and we teach about 3 times a day, it's crazy. My companion's name is Sister Thomson (yes, without the p) she is from New Zealand and she is so cool! She is so sweet and nice and a spiritual giant! But she is also silly and has a good sense of humor! Being with her has been really really fun! My roommates Sister Parker and Sister Ackley are really awesome too! We are always laughing together and just having a good time! My district is the coolest too! There are us 4 girls and then 4 boys, Elder Green & Rodreguiez, and Elder Peterson and Hatch.  We all get along so well and we do everything together, we eat and study and of course have class time together, and we have grown really close together which makes it a lot easier to be here!  My schedule is always so packed, we are just non-stop all day, and it is sooooo tiring! I have never worked this hard in my life and been so tired! We sit in class for hours and hours a day! Yesterday we had in-field training and it was a 9 hour rotation type thing. Holy Heck I wanted to die at about hour 5!!! But it was helpful because it gets you really excited to leave to your mission! Oh and kinda cool the Elder from the district the blond guy Elder Christansen I think it is, is one of our teachers here, so cool! I also saw the poly Elder from those videos, but on my first day and I haven't seen him since.  Our other classroom teachers are amazing too! They know so much and really are so helpful! Not to mention they are pretty cute, the Sisters in my room and I always joke about it, but we are missionaries so we don't like boys!;) The food here is pretty good, Sister Thomson and I usually eat a salad and a banana, but a few days ago we got brave and were sick of eating salad so we are now trying the lovely they make in the cafe, it's not too bad, kinda makes you feel sick though. Which by the way I still have a cold which is the worst!!! I am always coughing and I hate it! It's making it very hard to sleep as well as just not being able to sleep in general, but hopefully I get over this soon. One nice thing is they give us an hour of gym time everyday, we usually go to the fitness center which is really nice for me to relieve stress! The MTC is pretty cool though, it's nice to be around thousands of missionaries! And guess what!!????!! As of this last Wednesday there are more sister missionaries in the MTC than elders, can you believe that!! the ratio is about 52 to 48. Wow it's amazing to see so many girls! And guess what else is cool! The new Young Womens General President, President Oscarson came and spoke to us girls for relief society as her very first assignment! It was way cool!  Then later on Sunday we got to go on a temple walk and walked up there with the zone. It was so fun, the weather was perfect! But it has been so cold lately and the coats I have do not keep me warm at all, but good thing I will be in Florida in 2 days!!!!!! Whooo! I am so excited! Being a missionary is the coolest, I am having the best time and learning so much! Thanks for all the Dear Elders, it is so nice getting mail especially when you are having a way hard day. Sounds like Claire is being a little bit fussy, but I would be too if I were getting teeth! Thanks for the pictures and letters, keep sending more, and tell that bald brother of mine to write me already!

P.s. Samuel do you remember Elder Kitchen form your mission? He is one of my teachers! Crazzzy....
